  • Preparing for Installation:

    • Timber is natural and varies in colour, grain, and texture. Questions should be raised before any work or modifications commence.
    • Uneven expansion or contraction due to moisture changes is common. Ensure the timber is fully sealed before installation.
    • Doors must be trimmed equally from both sides, with specific trimming guidelines based on lipping size.
    • Avoid cutting locks or latches at rail or glazing bar joints.
    • Use three hinges for added strength.
    • FD30 fire-rated doors must be installed per the relevant fire certificate.

    Finishing & Sealing:

    • Untreated products must be fully sealed before hanging.
    • Do not use water-based sealants or waxes and oils, as they invalidate the guarantee.
    • Pre-finished products must be resealed in altered areas.
    • Lightly sand and de-nib all surfaces before initial sealing and before applying the final coat.

    External Products:

    • Protect from direct sun and rain with a porch, canopy, or recess of at least 1.5 meters.
    • Not suitable for coastal locations or glass porches.
    • Apply a minimum of three coats of a suitable finishing product.
    • Avoid painting external products black or very dark.
    • Ensure sealants contain UV protection for external oak timber products.

    Future Maintenance:

    • Keep products dry and stored flat.
    • Fully treat all faces, edges, and cut-outs before fitting.
    • Maintain the finish regularly to prevent moisture movement.
    • Wash external products with warm water and detergent every two years, applying another coat of finish as needed.

Doors must be trimmed equally from both sides. Each side of a door with a lipping of 10mm or more can be trimmed up to 6mm, while doors with a 6mm lipping can be trimmed up to 3mm. Further reductions may expose the engineered core, which will need to be sealed or re-lipped.

Use a suitable finishing product, applying a minimum of three coats. Avoid water-based sealants, waxes, and oils. For external products, ensure the sealant includes UV protection.

Our external engineered timber products are not suitable for coastal locations or any property within five miles of a sea front, defined as a marine environment.

Regular maintenance is essential. Check for and re-seal any cracks, scuffs, or scratches immediately. Wash external products with warm water and detergent every two years and apply a further coat of finish.
