Caring for Your Deanta Internal Door

Proper care and correct installation are essential to the long-term performance of your Deanta internal doors. This guide explains how to store, prepare, finish, fit, and maintain your door so it looks great and performs as intended for years to come.

Following these guidelines is also a condition of Deanta’s ten-year warranty, helping protect you against issues such as warping or splitting when doors are installed and treated correctly.

Ten-Year Warranty Overview

Deanta provides a ten-year warranty on all doors, in line with their published terms and conditions. If your Deanta door warps, bows, cups, twists, or splits, it will be covered under warranty provided all installation, handling, and finishing guidelines have been followed.

Please note:

  • Natural colour variation in timber or veneers is not a manufacturing fault. Wood is a natural product and variations in grain, tone, and small knots are expected.
  • Any alteration of a Deanta door will void the warranty if not carried out in line with Deanta guidance.
  • Under the warranty, liability is limited to replacement of the door only. No consequential or associated costs are covered.

Important Checks on Delivery

All doors must be carefully inspected immediately upon receipt.

  • Check the door, glazing, and edges for damage.
  • Any scratches on glass must be reported before installation. Scratches are not considered manufacturing faults once the door is fitted.
  • Once the Proof of Delivery (POD) has been signed, the product is deemed accepted under the contract.
  • Claims for damage will not be accepted after the door has been installed or altered, except for genuine manufacturing faults that occur after hanging.

Storage & Acclimatisation

Correct storage before installation is critical.

  • Store doors horizontally on a clean, dry, flat, and level surface.
  • Keep doors away from damp areas, direct heat sources, or extreme temperature changes.
  • Allow doors to acclimatise in the property for a minimum of seven days prior to installation.
  • Gradually increase the ambient temperature during this period to avoid sudden moisture movement.

Do not install doors in freshly plastered properties. All wet trades must be fully completed and dried before delivery. A moisture reading should be taken and recorded by an engineer before fitting.

Cutting, Trimming & Alterations

If a door requires trimming or planing:

  • Only remove material within the recommended trimming allowances.
  • Trim equal amounts from each edge to maintain door balance.
  • Refer to Deanta’s official product pages for door-specific allowances:
    https://deantawood.co.uk/products/

Any exposed timber created during trimming must be immediately sealed or revarnished. Failure to do so may allow moisture ingress, which can lead to warping or splitting and invalidate the warranty.

Finishing & Treatment Guidelines

Correct finishing protects your door and is essential for warranty compliance.

Unfinished Doors

  • Apply three full coats of a suitable internal wood finish.
  • Treat all faces, top, bottom edges, hinge recesses, and lock cut-outs.

Prefinished Doors

  • Any areas altered during fitting, including planed edges and ironmongery cut-outs, must be resealed immediately.

White Primed Doors

  • Lightly sand using fine-grit sandpaper to remove roughness or excess primer.
  • Apply one to two coats of your chosen topcoat.
  • Seal all trimmed or altered areas to prevent moisture absorption.

Always use varnishes or lacquers designed for internal joinery. If you prefer oil-based finishes, contact Deanta directly for recommended products.

Installation Requirements

For correct performance and warranty compliance:

  • All doors must be fitted using three hinges per door.
  • Use appropriate ironmongery suitable for the door weight and application.
  • Ensure doors are installed square and plumb within the frame.

Incorrect installation can lead to performance issues and may invalidate the warranty.

Fire-Rated Door Guidance

All Deanta UK fire-rated doors must be installed and used strictly in accordance with their fire certification.

  • Use only approved components, including frames, seals, glazing, and ironmongery.
  • Any deviation outside the scope of certification will invalidate both the warranty and the stated fire performance.

Hardware Warranty

Deanta hardware, including handles and locks, carries a ten-year warranty against mechanical faults only.

  • General wear and tear from daily use is not covered.
  • Damage caused by misuse or incorrect fitting is excluded.

Natural Timber & Veneer Characteristics

Deanta veneers are produced from North American timber and display natural variations in:

  • Colour tone
  • Grain pattern
  • Small knots or character marks

These features are part of the product’s natural appeal and are not considered defects.

Understanding Warp Tolerances

Warp, bow, cup, or twist is not classed as a defect unless it exceeds 6.35mm (1/4 inch) when measured across the plane of the door itself, in line with the relevant British Standard.

Warp refers to distortion within the door leaf only and does not relate to how the door sits within the frame or jamb.
