LPD Internal Door Treatment & Care Guidelines
🛠️ LPD Internal Joinery: Treatment & Care (Warranty Guidance)
To help keep your warranty valid, follow the manufacturer’s instructions below before and after installation. These guidelines apply to LPD untreated and primed internal joinery products.
📦 Unpacking & Decorating
- Once products are taken out of their packaging, they must be treated straight away.
- Pre-finished doors come already finished and are ready to hang.
✂️ Trimming Door Edges (Important)
- If door edges are trimmed, they must not exceed invididual ranges trimming guidelines, and must be sealed/finished using a polyurethane varnish.
- LPD recommend a HiBuild, microporous product that is not quick drying to help prevent waterlogging.
🎨 Finishing Options
- Oak timber doors can be decorated with a paint, stain, varnish or lacquer of your choice.
- White primed timber doors should be decorated with a good quality timber paint suited to your property.
⚠️ Compatibility Warning (Waxes, Oils & Veneered Doors)
LPD Internal Joinery is not suitable for all waxes, polishes, dyes or oils. Please speak to the manufacturer of your chosen finishing product prior to use to confirm it is suitable for the style and construction of your veneered door.
🧴 Recommended Finish for Unfinished Oak
LPD recommend their Hard Wax Oil for unfinished oak internal doors. It is designed to enhance and protect the natural beauty of your door, is user friendly, easy to apply and can be used in all interior situations.
↩️ Returns Policy (Read Before Hanging)
- Wood is a natural product — variations in colour and grain are common.
- We suggest doors are purchased in plot orders to help avoid excessive batch variation.
- It is vital that you check the product before it is hung so issues can be resolved quickly and efficiently.
- Once a door is hung, this is deemed as acceptance and may not be liable for a return.

⚠️ Important Notice for Professional Installation & Treatment
If you are instructing a professional installer, decorator or joiner to treat and install your untreated or primed internal doors, it is your responsibility to ensure they are fully aware of and follow the manufacturer’s treatment guidelines.
All cut-outs and exposed areas must be sealed prior to installation, including:
- Hinge recesses
- Handle cut-outs
- Lock and latch mortices
- Any drilled holes or exposed timber
These areas are particularly vulnerable to moisture ingress and egress. If left unsealed, moisture can enter or escape the timber unevenly, which may lead to:
- Warping or twisting
- Swelling or shrinkage
- Cracking or joint separation
- Premature finish failure
Moisture movement within timber is a natural process, but uncontrolled moisture ingress or loss through unsealed cut-outs can cause irreversible damage and compromise the door’s performance.
If door edges are trimmed, they must also be fully resealed using a suitable finishing product. This applies to the top, bottom and sides of the door.
Failure to correctly seal cut-outs, trimmed edges or exposed timber will invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.
