Frequently Asked Questions – Internal Door Linings & Frames
What is the difference between a door lining and a door frame?
The terms are often used interchangeably, but traditionally a door lining refers to the internal frame that fits within the wall opening, while a door frame may include the lining and decorative elements such as architraves. Our internal door linings are designed to create a solid, accurate opening for your door before architraves are fitted.
Are your internal door linings suitable for all door types?
Yes. Our internal door linings are suitable for oak internal doors, black internal doors, white internal doors, glazed doors, and fire doors, provided the correct size and specification is chosen. Always check door thickness and fire rating requirements before ordering.
Do you supply fire-rated door frames and linings?
Yes. We supply FD30 fire door frames and linings designed to work with fire-rated doors. It’s important to match the correct frame to the door thickness, as using the wrong frame or trimming excessively may invalidate fire certification.
What wall thicknesses do your door linings suit?
Our door linings are available in multiple widths to suit a wide range of wall thicknesses, from standard stud walls to solid masonry. If you’re unsure which size you need, our team can help you select the correct option.
Can internal door linings be trimmed on site?
Yes, most internal door linings can be trimmed slightly during installation to achieve a perfect fit. However, excessive trimming — particularly on fire-rated frames — should be avoided, as this may affect performance and certification.
Are door linings supplied pre-finished or unfinished?
We offer both unfinished timber door linings and primed options, including modern finishes such as black primed linings. Primed linings are ready for final painting, while unfinished timber allows for staining or bespoke finishes.
Do door linings come with architraves?
No, architraves are usually supplied separately. This allows you to choose a style that suits your interior, whether you prefer modern, minimal profiles or traditional moulded architraves.
Are your door linings suitable for DIY installation?
Internal door linings can be installed by experienced DIYers, but we generally recommend professional installation for best results, particularly for fire doors or non-standard openings.
