Pocket Door System FAQs
What is a pocket door system?
A pocket door system is a concealed sliding door frame that fits inside a stud wall, allowing an internal door to slide fully into the wall cavity when open. The system includes the frame, track, runners, and fixings required to support the door.
Does a pocket door system include the door?
No. Pocket door systems are supplied as frame and track kits only. The internal door leaf is purchased separately, allowing you to choose the door style, finish, and glazing that best suits your space.
What stud wall thickness do pocket door systems require?
Most pocket door systems are designed for standard UK stud walls, typically 100mm or 125mm thick once plasterboard is applied. Always check the system specification before installation.
Can I use any internal door with a pocket door system?
Pocket door systems are compatible with many internal doors, but the door must be suitable for sliding use. Solid core doors are recommended, and the door weight must fall within the system’s rated capacity.
Are single and double pocket door systems available?
Yes. Single pocket door systems allow one door to slide into the wall, while double pocket door systems allow two doors to slide into opposite wall cavities, creating a wide opening when fully open.
Can pocket door systems be installed in existing walls?
Pocket door systems can be installed during renovations, but they usually require removing the existing wall and rebuilding a stud wall to accommodate the frame. They are easiest to install during new builds or major refurbishments.
Are fire-rated pocket door systems available?
Yes. Fire-rated pocket door systems are available for projects requiring certified fire performance. These systems must be paired with compatible fire-rated door leaves and hardware.
What is the difference between standard and Ermetika pocket door systems?
Ermetika pocket door systems are premium Italian-engineered solutions offering enhanced build quality, smoother operation, bespoke sizing, and specialist options such as fire-rated and swing pocket systems.
